Join the fun
SYC was officially opened on 17th July by Countdown
star Rachel Riley. Since the big day, a few final adjustments were
needed to ensure the centre was ready. On August 9th
2010, SYC was born and is now open to offer information advice and
guidance to all young people, so whether you are looking for some
careers advice or just something to do this summer, it's all under
one roof. Youth sessions will begin at the SYC from August
16th and a full programme can be found here.
So, if you would like to come along and be part of the fun, the
simplest way is to become a member. Don't worry it's completely
FREE, we just need to make sure we know who is in the building and
when (it's a health a safety sort of thing). Potential new members
will receive a full induction of the centre including an overview
of the centre, a tour of the building & an explanation of the
code of conduct. Once you have had your induction, membership will
be granted and will allow you to enjoy the multi million pound SYC
experience.
What can I do at SYC?
Record - If you have an interest in DJ'ing or
just want to jam with your friends, we have a fully equipped
recording studio just for you including mixing decks, drum kit,
electric & bass guitars. Of course this is one of our most
popular attractions, this means that you will need to book with our
friendly receptionists or by calling us on 01702 298495, but don't
worry it's completely free with your membership card.
Dance- Our spacious room complete with a full
mirrored wall to ensure that you are all dancing in time with each
other. There will be special dance sessions run by us, however, if
you just want to practice some moves with your friends, you are
more than welcome to book yourselves a time slot.
Play- Whether you want to use our games room,
equipped with a pool table and TV showing the latest music videos
or would prefer chilling out in the YMCA café, all of this is FREE
to members.
Keep Fit- With a fully kitted
out gym including running, rowing, cross training and cycling
machines, there's no excuse not to get active and ensure that you
are in tip top shape. Our sports hall, complete with climbing wall,
basketball courts, five-a-side goals and cricket nets to mention a
few resources is the perfect way to have fun with your friends and
keep fit. Don't forget, we have showers in our changing rooms, so
make you are as fresh when you leave as when you arrived.
Learn- Our IT suite includes 10 computers
perfectly installed to ensure maximum working space. The room also
includes an interactive whiteboard, helping increase your learning
experience.
Create- Get arty, with our friendly art rooms.
If you're looking at becoming the next Picasso, or would rather get
abstract with some watercolours, our art room is the place for you.
There is also plenty of room if you more of a material person,
allowing you to make clothes or pretty much anything out of
textiles. Basically art has no boundaries, so get involved, but
don't forget to book yourself in!
Mechanics- If you're interested in automobiles,
this room was made for you. The spacious area has a working car
inside, so you can learn how to change the engine, tyres, well, you
get the picture. This is an organised group and only runs at
certain times throughout the week, so make sure that you book on
this one, but don't worry, as with everything at SYC, its FREE to
members.
